Like many, I got interested in Korea because of the dramas! When I was still in elementary school, a friend introduced me to it and, since it's a very different culture, I got fascinated. The first drama I watched was Boys Over Flowers, then I went for historical dramas and found information technology amazing from traditional wearing apparel to architecture, food, and the history of Korea itself. I've always been interested in learning about other cultures and, in 2016, the opportunity arose to accept a Korean class at Institute Rex Sejong through an extension form promoted by Unicamp in Campinas, and of class, I couldn't pass up this opportunity. Taking a Korean class made me closer to Korean culture and even more eager to get to know Korea.

I came to Korea for the first fourth dimension for a calendar week and I was able to see with my own eyes and feel the civilisation hither. With this Institute programme, I learned Korean traditional trip the light fantastic in the morn - they had different groups with activities like taekwondo, thousand-pop, samulnori …- and in the afternoon, nosotros visited sights and fifty-fifty took a trip to Jeju Island for 3 days. The first one was for the King Sejong Institute speech tournament in 2017, where I spent a calendar week here in Korea with everything paid.
In 2019, I practical to the University of Korean Studies (AKS) Summer Program, which has an online selection procedure and you need to exist a university pupil with some relationship to Korean culture (whether you take a college course related to the subject or study the Korean language). In this programme, I had the opportunity to stay 3 weeks here and the scholarship included studies, material, adaptation, nutrient, and fifty-fifty trips made with the academy.
And the third scholarship I got it'south the one now, to do a master'south caste at the Korea National Academy of Arts (Thousand-Arts) through the AMA+ scholarship (Fine art Major Asian plus Scholarship). This scholarship occurs through a choice procedure whose rules are published through a notice on their website.

One thousand-Arts is a dream for many people, and you were the but Brazilian in 2020 to win the long-awaited identify at this college. What do you believe is essential for enrolling in a course there?

Since the university is specific to Arts, the most of import thing is to take an interest in the arts, fifty-fifty if y'all take come from some other study area earlier. Existence proactive, determined, interested in learning more than, and contributing in some way to the university and society, as well has a peachy weight when applying for a position here. For the selection process, it is possible to limited all this well through the embrace letter, report plan, and portfolio – that is why it is worth working difficult when writing and preparing all the fabric described in the observe.

Here the cost of living is quite expensive, especially if you come up from Brazil, whose currency (real) is undervalued. Rent, health insurance, and fruits were the items I institute the nigh expensive effectually hither. I ever recommend scholarships, considering at that place are many opportunities here, such as the GKS scholarship, which is the government scholarship that covers almost all courses, and the AMA+ scholarship for Fine art students.

How is your human relationship with your family unit, since you live far away? How did they react when they knew you wanted to report in another country? Can they visit yous?
My parents ever supported my dream of studying abroad. As I was already connected to Korean culture by taking classes and having already visited here earlier, they also admire the country. So they're looking forward to visiting here, only we have to wait for the Covid-19 situation to improve.
It's a good thing we are in the 21st century because technology helps a lot to reduce the altitude from my parents, relatives, and friends. It allows us to keep in regular contact, not only through letters but also by video calls, which greatly reduces the feeling of distance. The only outcome is due to the fourth dimension zone since the difference is exactly 12 hours.
